In Paris, André Corrêa do Lago reinforced Brasil-France cooperation and the role of the Circles of Presidents at COP30
The ambassador met with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrau and COP21 President Laurent Fabius to accelerate global climate action

From June 5 to 6, during his official visit to Paris, France, COP30 President André Corrêa do Lago met with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrau and Laurent Fabius, the former president of COP21 who was responsible for the Paris Agreement ten years ago. The meeting aimed to align strategies to accelerate global climate action. The meeting also fostered dialogue on the strategic role of leadership circles in the lead-up to COP30.
On the first day, the governments of Brasil and France issued a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to advancing the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the pledges made ten years ago by 196 countries and country blocs. The statement emphasizes the importance of mobilizing resources, strengthening climate governance, and ensuring the participation of indigenous peoples and traditional communities in decisions about the global future.
The second day of meetings included discussions about positive expectations for COP30 and the role of the Circle of COP Presidents, chaired by Laurent Fabius. The Circle serves as a platform for sharing experiences, advising the COP30 presidency, proposing methods to expedite the implementation of the Paris Agreement, bolster multilateralism, and enhance global climate governance.
During the meeting, Corrêa do Lago emphasized that COP30 is a crucial opportunity to enact the global vision established in Paris in 2015.
"The goal is for Belém to represent a turning point in the effort to tackle climate change — one that encourages ambitious actions by signatory countries and promotes broad engagement from civil society, governments, and the private sector," said the Brazilian ambassador.
Circles
The Circle of Presidents is one of four leadership circles established by the Brazilian presidency to support COP30. The other circles are:
The People's Circle, led by Minister Sonia Guajajara, amplifies the voices of Indigenous peoples and other traditional communities.
The Circle of Finance Ministers, led by Fernando Haddad, focuses on climate finance.
The Circle of the Global Ethical Stocktake (GES) is coordinated by Marina Silva, with support from President Lula and UN Secretary-General António Guterres. This circle is dedicated to ethical mobilization and including multiple sectors in the climate debate.
