Activation Groups
Activation Groups are the driving force behind the COP30 Action Agenda. In total, there are 30 groups, each dedicated to one of the 30 key objectives.
These groups are an innovation of COP30 and stem from the mapping and grouping of more than 450 initiatives launched at previous COPs. Each initiative brings together voluntary and collaborative efforts by one or more coalitions of actors, such as national and subnational governments, investors, businesses, and civil society organizations, working together to achieve a common and clearly defined climate objective.]
The groups represent a recognition that many promises have already been made, and now the task is to build on what exists, demonstrate results, and accelerate implementation. Each Activation Group is coordinated by a secretariat, responsible for monitoring the progress of activities and ensuring their continuity after COP30.
The Activation Groups follow a four-step process:
Coordinate initiatives launched at previous COPs around common Key Objectives;
Measure the results generated by these initiatives and present them transparently within the Climate Convention channels and at COP;
Demonstrate that many solutions already exist for the climate, the economy, and people, providing real-world cases for the creation of a "Granary of Solutions";
Jointly scale existing solutions, with concrete plans to accelerate implementation by 2028, the end of the current Global Stocktake (GST-1) period.
By generating these results, the Activation Groups will ensure that solutions become more robust, advance faster, and reach more places, contributing to the achievement of the 30 objectives of the Action Agenda.
What is the composition of each Activation Group?
