The Theatro da Paz, inaugurated in 1878 at the height of the Rubber Cycle, is the most impressive theatre in the North Region and one of the most luxurious in Brazil. Inspired by Milan's Teatro alla Scala, it stands out for its monumental architecture, impeccable acoustics and rich decoration in frescoes, fine woods and gold leaf. With 146 years of history, it is a symbol of the cultural splendour of the Amazon.

CAIXA Cultural is a network of cultural centres that has been promoting democratic access to art throughout Brazil for 45 years, with free or affordable programming. Present in seven capital cities and scheduled to open in Belém in 2025, it hosts exhibitions, educational activities and collections that value diversity and Brazilian cultural memory.

Main exhibitions/attractions:

  • Mahku Collective — MAHKU (Movement of Huni Kuin Artists), founded in 2013 in Acre, is a prominent indigenous collective in Brazilian contemporary art, formed by artists from the Kaxinawá Indigenous Land of the Jordão River.
    Date: 9 October 2025 to 25 January 2026.

  • Suspended Landscapes — The exhibition brings together around 50 works from the IBRAM collections, curated by Daniela Matera and Daniel Barretto, and proposes a reflection on Brazilian landscapes in times of climate crisis. Organised into five sections, it addresses themes such as environmental devastation, ancestry and climate justice.
    Date: 9 October 2025 to 18 January 2026.

A floating installation created by Carlo Ratti Associati and Höweler + Yoon, AquaPraça proposes a public space between the city and the river. Suspended over the waters of the Guamá, the structure adjusts to the movement of the tides, inviting visitors to perceive the natural rhythm of the waters. During COP30, it will host meetings and experiences focused on reflecting on our relationship with the planet.

Located on the shores of Guajará Bay, Porto Futuro Urban Park is one of Belém's main social and leisure spaces. Opened in 2020, the park symbolises the revitalisation of the city's old port area, transforming it into an environment focused on sustainability, culture and appreciation of the Amazonian landscape.

Opened this October with the exhibition ‘Mandela, Global Icon of Reconciliation,’ the Banco da Amazônia Cultural Centre is the first cultural facility in the Amazon region linked to a mixed-economy financial institution of the Federal Government. It covers 4,000 square metres and houses three galleries, a library, an artificial intelligence minilab, six workshop rooms, a restaurant and a café.

The Museum of Sacred Art (MAS), housed in the former Episcopal Palace and integrated with the Church of Santo Alexandre, is one of the historical landmarks of Belém (PA). Founded in 1998, it occupies the former Jesuit college built between the 17th and 18th centuries with indigenous participation. The Baroque-style church was inaugurated in 1719 and preserves a valuable collection of Amazonian sacred art.

Utinga State Park (PEUt) is a Conservation Unit in Pará dedicated to preserving ecosystems of high ecological importance and natural beauty. The park promotes scientific research, environmental education and ecological tourism, connecting nature and sustainability in the heart of the urban area of Belém.

The Centenário Convention Centre, located in Belém (PA), is a modern and versatile venue that hosts major events, fairs and exhibitions. With complete infrastructure and easy access to the historic centre and Estação das Docas, it stands out as one of the city's main cultural and business facilities.

Espaço São José Liberto is a cultural centre housed in a restored and revitalised 18th-century prison. It is a symbol of the creative economy in Pará, integrating history, culture and sustainability in a single environment.

The Presépio Fortress, the first colonial construction in the Amazon, originated in 1616 as a Portuguese military base and the initial nucleus of Belém/PA. Transformed into a museum space in 2002, it preserves historical and archaeological remains from the Belém Foundation Site.

  • Fort Museum — The Presépio Fortress Museum in Belém (PA) brings together two exhibition routes: the ‘Historic Site of the Foundation of Belém’, which highlights the remains of the original military building, and the ‘Museum of the Encounter’, which narrates the indigenous occupation and Portuguese colonisation of the Amazon.

The Pará State Museum (MEP), located in the Lauro Sodré Palace — former residence of governors designed by Antonio Landi — is one of the main symbols of Pará's historical heritage. Founded in 1981, it has been part of the Integrated System of Museums and Memorials (SIMM) since 1998. Its collection includes paintings, furniture, photographs and objects that narrate the history and cultural formation of the state.

The Faciola Palace, built in 1901 and restored by the Government of Pará, was reopened in 2022 as the Faciola Palace Cultural Centre. The space houses the Department of Historical, Artistic and Cultural Heritage (DPHAC) and the Museum of Image and Sound (MIS). It has an exhibition room in honour of Senator Antônio Faciola, with a typical Amazonian Belle Époque setting.

Opened in 2021 in the Souza neighbourhood, Belém City Park is a public space dedicated to leisure, sports and community life. The site is part of urban regeneration and environmental enhancement initiatives promoted by Belém City Council, bringing together trails, playgrounds, sports areas and landscaping with native species.

Opened in 2005, Mangal das Garças Zoobotanical Park is a 40,000 m² natural refuge on the banks of the Guamá River, in the historic centre of Belém. The space represents the different ecological regions of Pará — dryland forests, floodplains and fields — bringing together Amazonian fauna and flora.

Located in the centre of Belém, Praça da Bandeira is one of the city's most emblematic historical and scenic landmarks. Surrounded by imperial palm trees and carefully planned gardens, the space is recognised as a meeting point for cultural and community life in the capital of Pará, bringing together residents, artists and visitors.

  • Freezone Cultural Action — Freezone Cultural Action is a cultural space open to the public that will promote art, dialogue, and social engagement during COP30. Conceived by the ARTÔ Cultural Institute, the initiative will promote concerts, panels, and immersive experiences on climate justice, bioeconomics, and youth leadership.

The Margarida Schivasappa Theatre, inaugurated in 1987, is one of Belém's main cultural venues, dedicated to the democratic promotion of the performing and musical arts. Linked to the Cultural Foundation of Pará, it hosts local, national and international shows. With its modern structure and accessible programming, it is a symbol of encouragement for culture and artistic diversity.

The Waldemar Henrique Theatre, in the centre of Belém, will host the COP Headquarters, an initiative of the Climate Observatory during COP30. The space will be transformed into a centre for mobilisation and collective creation, with free programming of exhibitions, roundtable discussions, and artistic performances focused on climate justice and popular engagement.

O Centro de Cultura e Turismo Sesc Ver-o-Peso, instalado em casarões históricos do final do século XIX, é um espaço dedicado às artes visuais, cênicas, música, literatura e audiovisual. O edifício, restaurado pelo Sesc com aprovação do IPHAN, simboliza a preservação do patrimônio e da memória cultural de Belém.
