Day 11: Thursday, 20 November

by the COP30 Communications Team

Daily Summary: Agriculture, Food Systems and Security, Fishing and Family Farming, Women, Gender, Afro-descendant, and Tourism

From Pledges to Progress, Accelerating Action

Today at COP30, discussions center on advances across agriculture, food systems, gender, and sustainable tourism. Day 11 of the conference also marks Brazil’s National Day of Black Consciousness, honoring the enduring resistance and contributions of people of African descent to the country’s history and social fabric.

As negotiations advance, actors from across sectors underscore the results achieved through the Action Agenda and the Global Mutirão, demonstrating how collaboration, inclusive leadership, and intersectional approaches are translating ambition into concrete outcomes. Today also deepens dialogue around climate solutions and reaffirms the global commitment to a just transition and a resilient, equitable, and sustainable future for all.

Key Moments:

  • 10:00AM - 12:00PM Towards a People-Centered Climate Action: Recognizing the Role of Women and Girls of African Descent
Climate change disproportionately impacts marginalized communities, and women and girls of African descent often face overlapping forms of vulnerability rooted in racism and historical inequalities. Yet they remain central actors in climate action. This event spotlights their leadership in the context of the UN Second Decade for People of African Descent (2025–2034) and explores how strengthened solidarity among Afro-descendant, Indigenous, and local community women and girls can drive meaningful progress in climate justice.

  • 11:00AM - 1:30PM  Dialogues for Race-Sensitive Climate Solutions, Ethnic-Racial Equality, and their Intersectionalities
The COP30 Special Envoys for Racial Equality and Peripheries, and for Human Rights and Just Transition convene a workshop on how race-sensitive and ethnic-racial equity approaches can strengthen climate action and environmental justice. Framed by the understanding that the climate crisis is a human rights crisis that disproportionately and intersectionally affects racialized populations, the session seeks to align the recommendations of the 3rd Durban Conference and Action Plan with the SDGs and the COP30 Action Agenda. The workshop promotes dialogue between climate solutions presented in the Plans to Accelerate Solutions (PAS) and initiatives led by racialized communities, aiming to generate guidelines for building climate solutions grounded in ethnic-racial equity and human rights. Participants will explore how to integrate ancestral and territorial knowledge, strengthen disaster-response capacities through an equity lens, and recognize contributions that advance the Action Agenda.
    Location: Action Room 5
  • 12:30PM - 2:00PM Global Mutirão: A Lasting Legacy
Leaders, young people, indigenous peoples, scientists, and other representatives of civil society will come together to show how community-based initiatives are already regenerating ecosystems and strengthening climate adaptation.
Location: SE Room 3 - Parnaíba
  • 2:30PM - 4:00PM Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities: the Heart of Global Climate Action
This event places traditional peoples and local communities at the center of climate justice and global loss and damage mechanisms. Aligned with the Platform for Indigenous Peoples and Traditional Communities and UNFCCC Decision 2/CP.24, the session will announce efforts to build a global alliance connecting regional struggles under shared agendas of justice and equity. Discussions will focus on strengthening political recognition of traditional communities in key UNFCCC processes, advancing an international network for cooperation, and promoting greater advocacy within the Loss and Damage Mechanism — including the protection of traditional territories and acknowledgment of non-economic losses such as knowledge, cultural practices, and Indigenous languages.
Location: SE Room 3 - Parnaíba
