Elevating Adaptation by Unleashing the Power of Technology
As the world gathers in the Amazon, COP30 opens a decisive new chapter in the global response to the climate crisis. This historic COP marks ten years since the Paris Agreement, with the policy cycle in full motion. It arrives at a time when accelerating implementation, restoring trust in multilateralism, and connecting climate ambition to people’s daily lives have never been more urgent. Guided by the spirit of the Global Mutirão and shaped by the findings of the first Global Stocktake, COP30 aims to catalyze delivery across all levels of society - transforming commitments into real-world solutions.
Day 1 of COP30 marks a turning point for adaptation and technology. Multilateral development banks and partners unveil new tools and financing models to turn adaptation plans into bankable, scalable projects, while a multi-billion-dollar agricultural innovation package is launched to help farmers in vulnerable regions adapt and thrive. In the afternoon, leaders from government, business, and the digital sector launch the Green Digital Action Hub, a global platform to drive a greener, more inclusive digital transformation. Other initiatives include the AI Climate Institute, digital decarbonization technologies, and advances in data transparency for ICT emissions, all designed to help countries harness technology to meet their climate goals. COP30’s first day shows how innovation can meet adaptation to build the systems that protect, connect, and empower people everywhere.
