MINICOP

Children and Adolescents to Run MiniCOPs Mutirão on Children’s Day

The initiative, led by the Alana and PerifaLab Institutes in partnership with Youth Champion Marcele Oliveira, will select proposals across Brazil for activities connecting childhood, climate, and environmental justice

On Children’s Day, the fight against climate change will gain new protagonists. Schools, collectives, and organizations across Brazil are invited to organize MiniCOPs—youth-led versions of the Climate Conferences, modeled on the UN format and adapted so that children and adolescents take the lead in shaping environmental solutions.

The initiative is part of the MiniCOPs Mutirão (Collective Effort), promoted by the Alana Institute and the PerifaLab Institute, in partnership with the Youth Champion for the COP30, Marcele Oliveira. The effort aims to ensure that the new generations have space and voice in a historic moment: COP30, which will take place in Belém this November.

Diversity and leadership

Ten proposals will be selected to receive financial support of R$3,000 each, amount granted by the Alana Institute. Every submission must engage at least 15 children and highlight Brazil’s territorial and cultural diversity. The call stipulates that at least one initiative from each of the country’s biomes will be selected, ensuring broader representation that includes voices from urban peripheries, Indigenous communities, quilombolas, and traditional peoples and communities.

Timeline:

  • Submission of applications: September 29 to October 5

  • Results announced: October 9

  • Activities carried out: through October 31

Proposals must be submitted through the online form available here.

Upon completion of the MiniCOP, each institution or collective must submit a brief report documenting all executed activities and showcasing the children’s work. These materials will be incorporated into the advocacy agenda of PYCC Marcele Oliveira at COP30, ensuring that the perspectives and solutions of younger generations are included in the global debate on climate, environmental justice, and sustainability.
