Brazilian Postal Service Builds Eco-Efficient Facilities Nationwide
The use of clean energy and green architecture are among the initiatives of the state-owned enterprise to be announced at COP30

By Correios, the Brazilian Postal Service
Eco-efficient facilities are being built across all regions of the country to enhance energy efficiency, environmental comfort, and accessibility in the services provided by the Brazilian Postal Service. In the state of Pará, the Telégrafo Branch is scheduled to be inaugurated during COP30. The facility is located at 1749 Senador Lemos Avenue, in Belém.
The project features photovoltaic panels for on-site clean energy generation, automated LED lighting with motion sensors, ventilation systems with air renewal and indoor quality monitoring, eco-efficient faucets and toilets, a green wall and integrated gardens, modernized furniture and service areas, electric vehicle charging stations, and full accessibility for people with disabilities.
The initiative will reduce energy and water consumption, lower the environmental impact of operations, and strengthen the company’s social and environmental commitments.
Scaling Up Investments in Sustainability
A model from Brazil’s electricity sector—allowing large energy consumers to freely choose their suppliers—will be adopted by the Brazilian Postal Service in 68 facilities across six state superintendencies, 20 of which are located in Pará.
In September, the state-owned enterprise began its transition to the Free Energy Contracting Environment (ACL), enabling direct negotiations with energy producers and traders to secure better pricing, renewable sources, and more sustainable contracts.
Key procurement criteria include sourcing energy from I5-type renewable sources (solar, wind, and biomass) and obtaining International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-REC), which verify the renewable origin of the electricity and ensure full traceability from generation to consumption.
This first phase of the energy transition will allow consumer units in Pará to reduce energy supply costs by approximately BRL 606,000 (an average of 4.4%) over the five-year contract period starting in 2026, while also cutting emissions associated with electricity use.
UPAEP Annual Mention Award
The Brazilian Postal Service’s energy efficiency project was among the three finalists for the Postal Union of the Americas, Spain and Portugal’s (UPAEP) Annual Mention Award for Innovation, held on October 21 in Montevideo, Uruguay. The award recognizes innovative initiatives, with Brazil’s entry competing alongside projects from Portugal and Spain.
