2026 Priorities

The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the main United Nations forum for international climate negotiations, held annually under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

In 2025, Brazil hosted COP30 in Belém, in the state of Pará, bringing global climate negotiations closer to the realities of the Amazon. With a focus on implementing international climate commitments, COP30 took place at a time of significant geopolitical and climate-related challenges. In this context, the conference reaffirmed the central role of multilateralism, the UNFCCC, and the Paris Agreement, advancing an agenda focused on translating existing agreements into concrete action.

The decisions adopted at COP30 completed the Paris Agreement Rulebook, delivering important outcomes on just transition, adaptation finance, the strengthened participation of Indigenous Peoples and traditional communities, and the integration of a gender perspective across global climate action. The conference also furthered discussions on energy transition, halting deforestation, and climate finance, reflecting the need for coordinated and structural responses.
