COP30 Presidency to launch Maloca, a global virtual platform for climate engagement, with an announcement by COP30 President Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago

On Friday, September 26, the Brazilian Presidency of COP30 will officially launch Maloca, a digital platform that will open the doors to the conference in Belém and other major climate events to participants across the world.

The launch event will take place at the UN Press Briefing Room in New York, with participation from:

  • Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago, President of COP30, who will announce the opening of Maloca’s registration system for virtual events.

  • Ana Toni, CEO of COP30.

  • Marcos Neto, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Director of UNDP's Bureau for Policy and Programme Support.

Following their remarks, the panel will be available to answer questions from journalists, who can attend either in person or in Maloca's immersive, virtual environment.

Why it matters

  • Democratizing access to climate action: Maloca provides open, global access to COP30 and related events, reducing barriers for communities, organizations, and governments , especially from the Global South. The platform will allow individuals to create their own avatar and interact with participants in real time.

  • Immersive participation: Through Maloca’s digital environment, governments and institutions can hold presentations and events, which anyone can participate in simply by accessing the site or app (available on GooglePlay and AppStore). Governments and institutions interested in holding events on Maloca can access the registration form on the website, which will undergo an approval process.

  • Part of the Route to Belém: Maloca is a flagship initiative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Brazil, in partnership with the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to broaden engagement in the lead up to COP30.
